Caddo Parish Poet Laureate, Critical Mass 14 Performance Critic’s Choice Poetess Lady Munira, pseudonym of Crystalyn Whitaker Nelson, M.Ed, will be
presenting The Colored Port Saga: Colored Criminality, a culturally educational artistic experience, at Davis Studio | 1450 Hawn Ave on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 6pm with the exhibit remaining open until Friday, November 13, 2026. Her debut The Colored Port Saga: Colored Faithwalk was presented 4 years ago, exactly, at the original location of Davis Studio on 70th Street. This exhibition is more expansive and explores even more ideas of culture and identity. The focus queries what keeps us bound and striving for freedom in the “free world.”

This year’s featured speaker is Melissa Dohme-Hill, a domestic-violence survivor, advocate, and executive director of Hands Across the Bay. The event centers on raising awareness and supporting the work of the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

Tickets are $50 per person, or $500 for a reserved table of eight.

Misery

“Misery” follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does. Directed by Jared Guillory.

Adult language, violence, and intense scenes.

SFA Gardens to host fall plant sale

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host
its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center in historic Nacogdoches.

The sale will feature an array of hard-to-find, “Texas-tough” plants, like east Texas native plants, and pollinator-friendly selections. Expect to find great shrubs, like azaleas, and trees, including Japanese maples and more. A list of all available plants will be posted on the SFA Gardens website two weeks before the sale.

This very popular event helps to fund the staff salaries and the daily operations of SFA Gardens. The areas under the SFA Gardens umbrella include Mast Arboretum, Pineywoods Native Plant Center, Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden, Gayla Mize Garden and Kingham Children’s Garden. Visiting the gardens is free, and the trials are open to the public every day from dawn to dusk.

Parking will be available at SFA’s Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center, located at 2428 Raguet St. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and bring a wagon for their plants.
