As spring bows out and summer begins, the James Smith Noel Collection is opening a new exhibit that showcases not only the floral beauty of the rose, but also its historical and cultural significance. Come see our collection of materials from the 17th through the 20th centuries that not only showcase the stunning beauty of roses but also their influence, including a look at the English Civil War known as the War of the Roses; literary works inspired by roses and gardens; and a view of the rose window in Gothic architecture.
We are delighted to announce the grand opening of THE MARKET @ NHUMC, a new farmers market in the Shreveport/Bossier Community. The Market will open on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to enjoy fresh, local, produce from great vendors. You will also find artisanal breads, cheeses, jams, honey, and more. Come and support our local farmers and small businesses while enjoying live music, tasty food, and much more. The market will be open every Saturday (rain or shine) from 9 am to 1 pm at 835 Poleman Road (at the intersection of Poleman Road and Cornell) in the North Highlands United Methodist Church parking area. Kilt up and join us at the Scottish Tartan Festival, Saturday April 20, 2024 in downtown Minden, Louisiana! It’s a day full of Scottish culture, music and games! Listen to the skirl of the bagpipes as you investigate your heritage at the clan tents. Enjoy traditional and modern Celtic music with bands Emerald Accent, The Rogues and Ally the Piper! Marvel at the quick feet of the Thistle Dancers & Pipers and the agility of the Jackson Irish Dancers as they perform Highland dance and jigs. Learn about history through the exhibits of our artisans and craftsmen. Cheer on your favorite champion at the Highland Games competition or enter your furry friend in the Dog Show. Come see which contestant can “down a pound” of haggis in the “Haggis-Eating Contest” while you enjoy Scottish foods, as well as traditional festival foods. Dance around the Maypole, and shop with our Celtic vendors. Gates open at 10:00 AM. The March of the Clans begins at noon which is followed by a “Kirking of the Tartans” and the kick-off of the Highland Games. Festival runs through 7:00 PM.
