A second person has entered the Democratic primary in Arkansas’ gubernatorial race. Arkansas State Senator Fred Love, D-Little Rock, announced his intention to run, saying he felt compelled to jump into the race to give voice and representation to the many disaffected citizens who feel largely ignored, and their concerns marginalized.
As Little Rock Public Radio reports, Sen. Love’s announcement comes after the recent entry of Arkansas businessman Gary Huskey, D-Blytheville, into the Democratic primary race. In an interview with KARK Channel 4.’s Capitol View, Love said it was the lack of representation that led him to launch his campaign for governor. ‘I’m hearing people, they’re being shut out. They’re not being heard, they’re not being listened to. And so, I want to give people a voice. And so, I’ve been doing that for the last fifteen years. And so, that’s what I want to do now. I want to give voice to Arkansans because Arkansas deserves better.’ Love said his campaign will not be focused on Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders who is running for reelection as a Republican.
However, on the issue of education, Love said he believes the Learns Act has not done enough to improve Arkansas schools. ‘Couple of things I would say is this, is that I don’t think we’ve moved the needle on education like we should have. I know that there was a few good plans in Arkansas Learns but it has turned out to be something that hasn’t moved the needle. I mean, the only thing that is going up in education is the amount of money that we’re spending in vouchers.”
The Democratic primary for Arkansas governor will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with the general election taking place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
