MAYORAL RACES - Although the election for Shreveport Mayor doesn’t take place until next year,  already there are two candidates who’ve announced their intention to run.  Two weeks ago, the incumbent Mayor Adrian Perkins  announced he will be running for re-election.  And he already has a new challenger: Caddo District 8 Commissioner Jim Taliaferro announced   yesterday  he  will  run  for  Mayor.  Taliaferro took to social media to make the announcement.

"Our strong mayoral form of government has driven our jobs away, driven our kids away and left us empty," Taliafarro said. "But if we change the way our city is governed, we can change the future of our city."

Taliaferro is serving his first term on the Caddo Commision.  He is a military veteran and a retired Sergeant of the Shreveport Police Department and former executive director of Caddo Crime Stoppers.   Taliaferro ran for mayor in 2018, he finished third behind Perkins and the incumbent Ollie Tyler.

BOSSIER CITY MAYOR'S RACE -  Voters in Bossier City will have two Mayoral  candidates to choose from in the upcoming March election.  The

Lo Walker, Mayor of Bossier City

incumbent Mayor “Lo” Walker has served for 16 years as mayor and until recently has run unopposed.  Local businessman Tommy Chandler qualified to run. This would be the second time Chandler has tried for public office as twenty years ago Chandler ran for an at-large spot on the city council but lost.

Walker has been involved with Bossier City administration for more than 30 years,  he ran against George Dement in 1989 and lost.  Dement offered Walker a job as city administrator which he held until 2005 and ran for Mayor upon Dement’s retirement.  It was the last race that Walker had challengers for the Mayor’s office.
