LSU HEALTH DOCS TALK CORONAVIRUS- The Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of the coronavirus vaccines back in mid-December. And the rollout has had it’s share of setbacks from getting timely allocations delivered to each state and then getting accurate information out to the public. Yesterday, LSU-Health in Shreveport held a webinar called: “Setting the Record Straight on Covid-19 Infection and Vaccination”. The purpose was to help address public concerns and misconceptions about the coronavirus and vaccine worries. Infectious disease specialist Dr.John Vanchiere addressed the dynamics of the illness.
". . .those who are going to develop symptoms as in pre-symptomatic phase, before they have symptoms, they have very, very high virus levels in their nose. So that is the time period where transmission is most likely to occur." Dr. John Vanchiere, Infectious Disease Specialist -LSU Health / Shreveport
"Many, many, many more people have no symptoms at all," Vanchiere explained. "We've also learned that those who are going to develop symptoms as in pre-symptomatic phase, before they have symptoms, they have very, very high virus levels in their nose. So that is the time period where transmission is most likely to occur."

The asymptomatic nature of Covid-19 appears to give people a sense of false security by assuming they’re not infected if they aren’t feeling anything as they would with other respiratory illness.
"And that is one of the very critical features of this type of infectinon compared to influenza," Vanchiere said.
The doctors addressed a variety of Coronavirus topics ranging from emerging variants, to vaccinations and possible allergic reactions which they said are very rare.
