Spectral Sisters Productions Announces Auditions for JaJa's African Hair Braiding
Spectral Sisters Productions invites actors to audition for its upcoming staged reading of JaJa's African Hair Braiding, with auditions taking place July 18, 20, and 21, 2026.
Written by Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Alana Pate, this vibrant, Tony-nominated comedy-drama follows a group of West African stylists creating masterpieces in a bustling Harlem hair salon while navigating friendship, family, love, ambition, and long-held secrets.
The production features an ensemble cast of 11–17 actors, portraying characters ranging in age from 18 through their 60s. All principal characters are Black. Auditions will be gender-blind.
During auditions, actors will read provided scenes from the script (download here: https://bit.ly/JaJaScenes). No memorized monologue is required.
As the inaugural production in SSP's exciting new Spectrum Series, JaJa's African Hair Braiding represents our commitment to expanding opportunities for local artists while bringing bold, diverse, and compelling stories to our community.
The production will be presented Thursday, November 5, through Sunday, November 8, 2026, at the Kress Theater in downtown Alexandria. Cast members must be available for all performance dates. Rehearsal schedules will be determined by the director following auditions.
Audition Note: Actors are welcome to attend any or all three audition sessions. Attending multiple sessions is not required unless specifically requested by the director.
