— The U.S. Justice Department is opening a sweeping civil rights investigation into the Louisiana State Police amid mounting evidence that the agency has looked the other way in the face of beatings of mostly Black men, including the deadly 2019 arrest of Ronald Greene.
— A federal judge has refused to delay her order for Louisiana to redraw its congressional districts while the state's top elections official appeals.
— A special Texas House committee met for the first time Thursday to investigate the Uvalde school massacre, including the much-criticized slow response by law enforcement.
— AAA offices in Dallas, Texas say costs for refineries producing a more expensive “Summer Gas Blend” along with the war in Ukraine and inflation are contributing to the rising prices.

Chuck Smith brings more than 30 years' experience to Red River Radio having started out as a radio news reporter and moving into television journalism as a newsmagazine producer / host, talk-show moderator, programming director and managing producer and news director / anchor for commercial, public broadcasting and educational television. He has more recently worked in advertising, marketing and public relations as a writer, video producer and media consultant. In pursuit of higher learning, Chuck studied Mass Communications at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and motion picture / television production at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has also taught writing for television at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina and video / film production at Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport.
