Sun., May 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. On this episode of Illuminations, host Ranae Moran is joined by Janet Singer Applefield, a child survivor of the Holocaust, author, clinical social worker and speaker, to talk about some of her experiences and those of her family while enduring the holocaust in Poland. We hear her first-hand account of the holocaust and talk about antisemitism, identity, the murder of her mother, reunification with her father at the end of the holocaust, and how she came to live in America. Her book, Becoming Janet: Finding Myself in the Holocaust, tells her remarkable in-depth story while bringing you directly into the holocaust through the eyes and experiences of a child trying to survive. Janet has spent over 40 years speaking with thousands of students, educators, religious groups, government officials, and librarians to raise awareness and understanding of the dangers of prejudice while encouraging audiences to stand up to any kind of discrimination and injustice.
