Health Matters--Understanding ADHD: Symptoms, Challenges and Differences

Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 6 p.m. October is ADHD Awareness Month, and on this edition of Health Matters, we’re taking a closer look at ADHD—how it can affect children and adults, what the signs may look like, and why it can sometimes be difficult to recognize.

We also explore ADHD in girls, including why it may be missed or diagnosed later and how symptoms can sometimes differ from the more familiar picture of ADHD.

What should parents, educators, and others look for? How is ADHD diagnosed, and what kinds of support can make a difference? Health Matters: Mental Health Edition host Dr. Shawn McNeil, will be joined by Dr. Frampton Gwynette - Chair, Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport, Michelle Yetman, PhD, Clinical Psychologist, Associate Professor, at LSU Health Shreveport; and Quinn Tompkins, MS - Psychology Doctoral Intern, at LSU Health Shreveport; as we learn the answers to these questions and more.
