Camp Minden Discussion

Host Rebecca Triche discusses the 2012 explosion at Camp Minden and the response by the community calling for safe and clean disposal of the deteriorating and volatile chemicals and explosives located on site. We talk about how local citizens contributed to the selection of the closed burn unit used for disposal and what remains at the site today. The guests are Ron Hagar, a local resident retired from work as a millwright and furnace operator; Colonel Samuel Mims, a retired army officer who served 30 years in the military and is a resident of Dubberly where he grew up; and Dr Brian Salvatore, a professor of chemistry and chair of the LSU-Shreveport Department of Chemistry and Physics. These three local citizens served on the US EPA’s Minden Community Dialogue Committee in 2015 and currently serve on the Camp Minden Citizen Advisory Group.
