Kim Mulkey To Coach LSU Women's Basketball

 MULKEY TO LSU - Baylor University's Women's basketball coach who's led the team to three national championships  is leaving Waco, Texas.  Kim Mulkey met with her team Sunday afternoon before confirming her departure from Baylor University and acceptance of the Head Coaching position at Louisiana State University.  Mulkey lead the Lady Bears to their first national championship in 2005.  In 2012 and 2019 they again took the title – and tied UConn, Tennessee and Stanford as the only programs to win 3 national titles. Mulkey spent 21 season as head coach of the Baylor Lady Bears. Baylor has launched a national search for its next head coach.  

Kim Mulkey was a standout  at Louisiana Tech in the early 1980’s, she was an All-American point guard for the Lady Techsters, winning two national championships. She became an assistant at Tech in 1985 and was promoted to associate head coach in 1996. During her 15-year tenure as assistant and associate head coach under Leon Barmore, Louisiana Tech posted a 430–68 record and advanced to seven Final Fours. Mulkey and the Lady Techsters won the 1988 NCAA Championship.                       

Chuck Smith brings more than 30 years' broadcast and media experience to Red River Radio. He began his career as a radio news reporter and transitioned to television journalism and newsmagazine production. Chuck studied mass communications at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and motion picture / television production at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has also taught writing for television at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina and video / film production at Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport.
