INTRO:Texas Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gina Hinojosa has filed a lawsuit against her Republican opponent, incumbent Governor Greg Abbott.
The lawsuit seeking access to Governor Greg Abbott’s communications with billionaire Elon Musk.
As a member of the State House, Hinojosa wants to inspect unredacted versions of Abbott’s communications with Musk, whose businesses have a large footprint in Texas.
Her attorney says Abbott’s office denied the request:
SOT:
“Well, look, it is highly suspicious when they won’t make public what these communications are about. And that’s why I’m trying to get access to them because we have a right to know.”
TAG:
Abbott’s office has cited privacy protections and other exceptions to public records law.
And the governor dismissed the new lawsuit, calling it a quote, “act of desperation” by Hinojosa and her campaign.

In Arkansas.. early voting is off to a brisk start. That’s the word from the Secretary of State’s office.
Little Rock Public Radio’s Josie Lenora reports:
SOT:
“It’s too late to register to vote for this year. But if you’re already registered, it’s time to vote. You can check your voter registration on the Secretary of State’s website. Early voting ends on November 2nd at 5:00 p.m. During early voting, polling places are open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Secretary of State’s website should have a list of voting sites near you. If you want to vote absentee, we’re getting close to the deadline. In Arkansas, you need a reason to vote absentee, like disability, illness or military deployment. October 27th is the last day the county clerk’s office will accept an absentee ballot application by mail. October 30th is the last day to apply in person. When you go to vote, be sure to bring your ID.”

INTRO:
Drought conditions are intensifying in Louisiana.
That’s according to State Climatologist Jay Grymes, who says above-normal temperatures are a contributing factor:
SOT:
“We’ve only just recently, past few days, had a break from the near summer-like temperatures. So, that adds to the evaporation rates which only dries the soils out even more.”
TAG:
Grymes says there have been as many as 80-plus fires in the state in recent weeks – with most of the western half of Louisiana under a burn ban.

INTRO:
But there’s some promising news from the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say the winter outlook calls for wetter-than-normal conditions in Louisiana.
LSU Health climatologist Barry Keim says that’s typical during El Niño winters:
SOT:
“Expect normal temperatures and above normal precipitation with that enhanced storminess.”
TAG:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, better known as NOAA, says north Louisiana has a 40-to-50% chance of above normal precipitation.
