The Louisiana Democratic Party has announced their congressional endorsements for the fast-approaching midterm elections.
Louisiana Public Radio Capitol Access Reporter Brooke Thorington has more:

“For the open 6th congressional district the party has endorsed Lindsay ‘Rubia’ Garcia of Walker. Congressman Cleo Fields opted not to seek reelection because the district was redrawn to favor a Republican. Monroe state representative Pat Moore received the party’s backing for the 5th district which is also an open seat. Congresswoman Julia Letlow is running for U.S. Senate. Union Parish farmer Conrad Cable has been endorsed for the 4th district, Navy-veteran John Day for the 3rd and New Orleans special education teacher Lauren Jewett for the 1st district. Incumbent Democratic Congressman Troy Carter received the party’s endorsement for the 2nd district. The congressional primaries are November 3rd and runoffs are scheduled for December 12th.”

In Texas… the backlog of Medicaid applications grew by more than 209,000 between January and August.
During the same period, the backlog for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as SNAP, grew by more than 146,000 applications.
Diana Forester is with the statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan group known as “Texans Care for Children.”
That’s the advocacy group that recently published the state's data.
She says more Texans are still waiting for services:

“We wanna make sure that our pregnant women can start prenatal care quickly. We wanna make sure that kids can see the doctor when they're sick...We wanna to make sure people can eat."

Texas is under pressure to reduce its SNAP error rate that stands at 9.34% .
While that’s below the national average, it’s still above the 6% limit set under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”
If the rate doesn’t change by October 2027, Texas will be on the hook to pay $826 million annually.
The error rate is a measure of payment accuracy, not a fraud rate.

In Arkansas, with the unofficial end of summer right around the corner - with Labor Day next Monday – talk has already begun to focus on the November elections.
In the latest “Talk Business & Politics-Hendrix College Poll, independents, by a 2-to-1 margin, are leaning towards non-Republican candidates.
On Sunday’s broadcast of Talk Business & Politics, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Columnist John Brummett explained why he has described the surveys quote, “Polling without consequence:

“It’s August. And a poll right now when people aren’t having to make the choice. And the choice has not been framed for them by the negative attack ads that we’re only seeing some of. We’re not going to see as vividly and as stoutly as we’re going to.”

Brummett says this polling reflects a snapshot in time of the public’s frustration with high gas prices, and how they’re feeling right now.
He called these “baseline polls” where there’s a strong push right now against incumbents:

“But the pattern in Arkansas is, as we get close to election the Republicans spend a lot of money where they need to, to tell people that the other guy is a socialist, or voted for Kamala Harris, or is a woke liberal, or wants the criminal gang marauders to come to your house…”
