Nearly 4.5 million Texas voters cast their ballots in this year’s midterm primary elections. As The Texas Newsroom reports, Democratic turnout saw a major jump this year, doubling compared with recent primaries. That’s according to data from the Secretary of State’s office, which recommended using a quote “benchmark race” to estimate participation.
According to The Texas Newsroom’s analysis, Democrats cast about 2.3 million votes this year — far higher than the roughly one million ballots cast in the party’s 2022 and 2024 primaries.
State data also shows Republican turnout remained strong and consistent with previous years. Political scientists say this year’s jump may reflect increased enthusiasm among Democratic voters.
