On Thursday, June 12, the Shreveport Bossier Astronomical Society is hosting “Telescopes on Tap” at Great Raft Brewing beginning at 7:30 p.m., to raise awareness of their public activities, such as their spring and fall star parties.

The society’s president, Dr. Cran Lucas, will be giving a presentation on what you see when you look up into Shreveport’s night sky. An open Q & A, a trivia competition, and–weather permitting–public access to some of the members’ telescopes will be part of the activities.

The SBAS has operated the Shreveport observatory on Highway 175 since 1964, and currently the observatory needs some critical repairs which they will be fundraising for at the event.

Dr. Lucas says the society aims to provide access to telescopes and general astronomy information to the public.

“And this is just one way we hope to bring that to the public,” he notes.
