The Texas House gave unanimous approval this week to a bill that would create a statewide active shooter protocol, as a response to the 2022 Robb Elementary School mass shooting. “The Uvalde Strong Act, House Bill 33, was introduced by Uvalde's former mayor, Texas State Representative Don McLaughlin.
The bill, HB33, as Texas Public Radio reports, would require standardized active shooter response policies and enhance incident command training and mutual aid agreements between agencies.
Nearly 400 law enforcement officers waited more than an hour to confront the Uvalde gunman, who killed 19 students and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary. The Department of Justice said the botched response resulted from cascading failures of leadership.
