The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has unveiled the new Central Louisiana State Hospital (CLSA) in Pineville. The state describes the new psychiatric hospital as a state-of-the-art facility designed for up to 116 patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
The $33 million renovation and relocation project is intended to offer enhanced safety and security, with its primary focus on rehabilitation, patient-centered care and recovery. According to LDH officials, treatment services include individual, group, and family therapy, along with recreational and occupational therapy, pharmacotherapy, speech and hearing therapy, and more.
State Representative Mike Johnson (R-Pineville) told the Louisiana Radio Network that completing this project was essential. “It was a tremendous need as [it] is in many communities. But Central State Hospital had been in operation for over 127 years in Pineville and the original campus had like 2,000, at one point they had 2,000 patients.” Johnson says the hospital will expand in the future to meet demand in the community.
LDH Secretary Michael Harrington said, “We now have a beautiful new therapeutic facility with outstanding care delivery.” Harrington added, “It supports CLSH’s delivery of care model, which is to provide person-centered care that promotes recovery and resiliency.”
