VIDEO GAME DESIGN CAMP– As school lets out for the summer, you may be thinking about how you can get your youngsters to do something that not only keeps them busy and out of trouble but also engages them in something that’s not only educational but fun as well. I’m talking about a special Video Game Design camp that will take place in June on the LSUS Campus in Shreveport. Allen Garcie is director of the LA Pixel Digital Arts and Media Academy, he explains what this special summer camp is all about.
“It’s for anyone who wants to learn how to build their own video game,” Garcie said. “They don’t have to have any background in digital arts, or the software or anything; we teach them everything from the ground up.”
The LA-Pixel Academy camp runs June 5-30, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day on the LSUS campus. Space is limited and eligible students are aged 13-17 with at least a 2.5 Grade-point-average. They need to apply online and submit a statement about why they’d like to participate in the video game design program.
“To apply for the program, you just have to go towww.lapixelacademy.com. You’ll see a video game playing screen and there’s a button on there ‘CLICK TO APPLY’ and that will take you right to the online application that you can fill out,” Garcie explained.
There is no cost as the program is sponsored by LA-Prep. Lunch is free and will be provided. The summer program will be the seventh for the LA Pixel Academy and is a collaborative undertaking with the LSUS Digital Arts program. And again — the website for more information and to apply is www.lapixelacademy.com.
