MARSHALL JOB FAIR - You can find help wanted ads just about everywhere these days as employers have positions to fill for everything ranging from frontline service workers, sales staff, technical skilled laborers to healthcare. But finding the right job can be a challenge, especially if you’re not sure what types of jobs are available and what they involve. Today (Wed, 03/01/23) the Marshall Economic Development Corporation and Workforce Solutions of East Texas will hold a Job Fair at the Marshall Convention Center. This job fair is a bit different in that it aims to create a better awareness of the variety of jobs available in East Texas and what types of skills are needed to succeed at those jobs. Rush Harris, CEO with the Marshall Economic Development Corporation explains more.

“It’s different from a normal job fair, you’re not going just to obtain a job. You’re going to it to talk to people about what it is these occupations actually do,” Harris said.

The Job Fair will feature more than 50 local organizations in attendance representing a wide array of educational resources such as vocational training and higher education, to healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, and services from all over East Texas. Harris points out that people will discover they won’t have to relocate to larger metropolitan areas such as Dallas or Houston to find good paying jobs either.

“There are jobs all over East Texas, Northwestern Louisiana as well, that people just aren’t aware of but these jobs are really accessible. Sometimes there’s even a low-threshold for entry on skill level where you don’t have to have a 4-year degree necessarily. A lot of these jobs, starting pay can be upward of $60,000 to start,” Harris said.
