BAGLEY SHOOTING - A warrant for the arrest of Shreveport Police Officer Alexander Tyler was issued by the Louisiana State Police yesterday in connection with the shooting death of Alonzo Bagley that took place about two weeks ago. During a press conference yesterday, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux had this announcement:
“Officer Alexander Tyler has been charged with negligent homicide and surrendered for arrest without incident,” Arceneaux said. ” The Shreveport Police Department has begun it’s disciplinary process for Officer Tyler which must proceed pursuant to the Police Officer’s Bill of Rights. Officer Tyler has been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of that process.”

Officer Tyler was booked into Caddo Correctional Center where he was processed and then released on $25,000 bond. The arrest came 13 days after the Shreveport police officer fatally shot 43-year-old Alonzo Bagley. Louisiana State Police investigated the officer-involved shooting at the request of the Shreveport Police Department.
According to a preliminary report: on February 3rd at approximately 10:51pm, Shreveport Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Villa Norte’ Apartments in the 1600 block of Fullerton Street. Officers said they found Bagley inside an apartment. He fled, exiting on a balcony, and jumped to the ground before running from the officers.

After a brief foot chase, Tyler shot Bagley, striking him in the chest and then began performing lifesaving aid to Bagley until Shreveport Fire Department Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and transported Bagley to Ochsner LSU Health where around 11:30pm Bagley was pronounced dead. According to Louisiana State Police, no weapons were found near or on Bagley. Officer Tyler’s arraignment is scheduled for April 3rd.
