LA DOTD SECRETARY WILSON TO RETIRE FOR POSSIBLE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDACY

from file

LA GOVERNOR'S RACE: The race for Louisiana governor is pretty much crowded with GOP hopefuls and an independent candidate. And with Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards being unable to run due to term limits – there has yet to be an official Democrat to enter the race. But yesterday Louisiana Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson, a Democrat, informed the governor that he will be retiring as head of the DOTD on March 4th—just over two weeks away. It’s been reported that Wilson was considering a bid for governor but has yet to officially announce his candidacy. Yesterday during his live call-in radio program “Ask The Governor”, Edwards was asked to comment on Wilson’s potential run.

“The next step for him is one that he’s going to announce and I’m just not going to get in front of him but I can tell you we would be very well served to have Shawn Wilson as our next governor should he choose to run and should the people of Louisiana choose to vote for him,” Edwards said.

Wilson would be the first Democrat to enter the race , he has 28 years of state service, part of which has been two terms as Edwards' transportation secretary. Wilson said he will make an official announcement soon about the governor's race, but by all accounts he clearly intends to run.
