LA Democratic Party Chair's TV Ad Suggests She May Be A Gubernatorial Candidate

LA DEM FOR GOV? - The Louisiana Governor’s race has had another entry or has it? This time from a Democrat. Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Katie Bernhardt has released a TV spot featuring a number of people expressing their dissatisfaction with politics and she presents her candidacy as a possible solution. But in one sequence she drives home the point with a shotgun blast.

“It starts with electing people with strong character and even stronger values, and a little bit of firepower,” Bernhardt said before shooting a clay target from the sky.

The ad was produced and paid for by the new Team Louisiana Political Action Committee and will be airing on local television stations throughout Louisiana beginning today. Now according to a report in the Lafayette Daily Advertiser: Neither Team Louisiana PAC leadership nor Bernhardt would specifically say she is actually a candidate, but the video clearly is intended to introduce her to voters.

Bernhardt told USA Today Network she will seek consensus from the state's top elected Democrats to draft a candidate. So for now Bernhardt is a potential candidate. The only other Democrat who is considering joining in the governor’s race is state Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson. Those who have officially announced their gubernatorial campaigns are Republicans Attorney General Jeff Landry, State Treasurer John Schroder, state Senator Sharon Hewitt, and Representative Richard Nelson. And one independent include independents project manager Xan John, and attorney Hunter Lundy.
