CHIMP HAVEN EXPANSION- The world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary is located in Northwest Louisiana near Keithville. Chimp Haven is a private, nonprofit refuge on 200 acres of forested land in Northwest Louisiana, and home to more than 300 chimps that were used for biomedical research. It was founded in 1995 and actually welcomed its first two chimpanzee residents in 2005. And since then has brought more chimps to live out their days there . Five years ago the Chimp Haven sanctuary announces it has completed its “Welcome Home” campaign to expand its capacity.

“Chimp Haven is thrilled to share that our nearly $20 million sanctuary expansion is complete,” Chimp Haven’s Chief Development and Marketing Officer, Taylor Shead Johnson explained. "And with it, 100 additional chimpanzees have moved from research facilities to their permanent home at sanctuary. The ‘Welcome Them Home’ expansion began several years ago to insure Chimp Haven to fulfill its promise to bring all eligible chimpanzees in research facilities home to sanctuary.”
