Strong Storm System To Push Through Red River Radio Listening Area Today

Courtesy: NWS Shreveport

SEVERE WEATHER -- Today’s weather forecast is making the news as much of the Red River Radio listening area will experience some rainfall and severe winds. Mike Berry is a Senior Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Shreveport. I spoke with him a few minutes ago for this weather update:

"Well across northwest Louisiana we're expecting an increase in showers and thunderstorms ahead of a very strong cold front," Berry said. "There will be the possibility of some strong to severe thunderstorms with this convection early this morning. Large hail, damaging winds are going to be the main threat. Can't rule out an isolated tornado threat."

Berry says overnight temperatures will dip to the low 30’s and wind chills could be in the 20’s and upper teens. So people are advised to take precautions. Make sure pets have a warm space overnight, wrap the pipes and tie down anything outside to prevent the winds from carrying it away. This weather event should be short as daytime temperatures in the 60’s are expected to return in time for the Mardi Gras parades this Saturday.
