BAYOU CLASSIC - The Bayou Classic is a time-honored football contest between Grambling State and Southern Universities. It has always been played in New Orleans since 1974 but at a noon press conference held at Independence Stadium yesterday, Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins made this announcement.
"I've very excited to announce that Shreveport will be the host to the 47th annual Bayou Classic," Perkins said.
This year’s game between the Tigers and Jaguars will be held at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium on April 17th. The Bayou Classic has been played in the New Orlean’s Merecedes Benz Superdome since 1974 but due to renovations that began last January and with Covid-19 restrictions on crowds, the Bayou Classic needed to find a different venue for this years’ game. The city of Shreveport made a bid and was selected.
Tickets are expected to go on sale within a few weeks. The Classic was moved from New Orleans once in 2005 when it was played in Houston due to Hurricane Katrina damaging the Superdome.
