GOVERNOR’S CV-19 UPDATE-   Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards held a press conference yesterday to give updates on Tropical Depression Beta’s impact,  Phase 3 reopening restrictions,  and the latest Covid-19 cases and statistics.  But he did also comment on the upcoming Special Legislative Session that Republican Lawmakers announced earlier this week.  Louisiana House of Representatives, a majority of the House and the Louisiana Senate members have authorized the written petition under the state constitution to call itself into special session, AND the majority also sets the agenda which is to debate Hurricane Laura disaster relief and recovery efforts,  The state’s Unemployment Trust fund AND On-going issues with COVID-19  especially relative to funding and the economy.  That last item will likely address Governor Edwards’ Coronavirus mitigation reopening restrictions.

"What is it that my most vocal critics are really concerned about," Edwards pondered. "Because every action that I've taken has been consistent with the science and the data, consistent with the White House Coronavirus Taks Force guidelines and yet you never hear them say that."

The Lawmakers’ gathering  this Monday will mark the second special session of the year called by the Legislature.  The first one ended just ahead of the start of the new financial year on July 1, including approval of a state operating budget, after the 2020 regular session was interrupted by the early stages of the pandemic.
