THREE COVID-19 CASES IN CADDO - Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins held a press conference Sunday to give an update on matters concerning the Novel Coronavirus and its impact on the city of Shreveport and surrounding areas.  His announcements included the latest number of persons who have tested Presumptive Positive for the Virus in Caddo Parish.

"There are currently three positive cases in Caddo parish, we learned of two today," Perkins said. "We expect more and so we want to do everything we can to meet this challenge and prevent the spread of the virus and assist our citizens during this difficult time."

The Louisiana Dept of Health has also confirmed one Covid-19 infection in Bossier Parish. Since all schools K-12 in Louisiana have been temporarily closed as a precaution against community spread of the virus, this poses a problem for children who rely on school lunch programs.  Both Shreveport and Bossier Parish School Systems have set up areas where  students  may still receive food.   The  Mayor  explained  students  can  take  SporTran  Buses  to  the  feeding  sites.

"This assists students with transportation to and from established in Caddo and Bossier parishes," Perkins explained. "Buses will maintain their regular schedule and run their regular route.'

Caddo Parish Public Schools have established 22 feeding sites throughout the parish – these include Breakfast and Lunch.   These are Grab & Go meals .  Breakfast will be from 7am to 8:30am and Lunch 11am to 1:30pm.  Locations are listed on the Caddo Parish Schools Facebook page and Website.

Bossier Parish Schools have established 14 feeding sites for Breakfast and Lunch.  These  too  allow for drive-through pickup.  According to the Bossier Parish Schools’ Facebook page… pickup times are 9am to noon and the locations are also listed on the facebook page.

As a precaution, Mayor Perkins said all Shreveport Parks and Recreational Facilities will be closed to the public so that staff can take the time to adequately clean the buildings.  The SPAR facilities will be closed until further notice.   Since the Coronavirus precautions urged by city and state health officials include suspension of large gatherings and social distancing,  Mayor  Perkins asked citizens to avoid appearing in person to interact with government services  and instead use online services to handle routine matters such as paying bills.

As to future public meetings such as city council sessions, Mayor Perkins said there are discussions  on  possibly moving the meetings to larger spaces to help with personal distancing for those who attend.
