BLACK HISTORY MONTH –SML:  February is Black History Month and many different events are taking place throughout the Red River Radio listening area.  For this segment we focus on just a few of things happening  at  different branches of the Shreve Memorial Library.

One program is the African-American Read In, People encouraged to celebrate by attending and participating in open mic events to include readings of  poetry and literature  by African Americans.   Ivy Woodard-Latin with Shreve Memorial Library explains more.

"The African American Read In programs are encouraging people of all ages to read more and it also loans itself to diversity in poetry and literature," explained Woodard-Latin.

The African American Read In has become a tradition to celebrate contributions by African Americans in the fields of literature. It’s also designed to help develop better reading habits.

SML BLACK HISTORY LECTURE SERIES - Each Monday through Feb. 24th, there will be a presentation on Black History at SML Broadmoor Branch beginning at 6:30 pm.

Another special program presented by the Shreve Memorial Library is  the  Black History Month 2020 Lecture Series, which is being coordinated with The Shreveport Sun, Louisiana’s Oldest Black Weekly Newspaper.

"Every Monday through February 24th,  Shreve Memorial Library has partnered with the Shreveport Sun to bring this lecture series on African American history," Woodard-Latin said. "And basically what we're talking about is history that is right here in northwest Louisiana."

That was Ivy Woodard-Latin with Shreve Memorial Library.   Those are just a few of the  things taking place at different branches.    For more information click:
