LA EDUCATION SUPERINTENDENT RESIGNS - Louisiana  Superintendent  of  Education John  White,  the  longest  serving  state education chief  in the nation -- is resigning. According  to  a letter  sent  to  the  Louisiana Board  of  Elementary and Secondary  Education  Wednesday,  White  said  he will leave his position on March 11th.   Cast in the role as a “change agent” for Louisiana  education  standards,  White  began  his  job  as  state  education  chief  in  2012  under  then  Gov. Bobby Jindal.   His  mission  at  the  time  was  to  implement  Common Core State  Standards  in Louisiana.

White  accomplished  that   task  despite  it  turning  out to be a controversial one, with some opposition to the standards and curriculum.   White oversaw improvements in high school graduation rates, college prep scores  and  other measures of student performance.   The Associated Press reports – The  Board  of  Elementary and Secondary Education  has said  a  search for White’s  replacement would begin immediately.  The  new  board  takes  office  on Monday.
