TEXAS TUITION HIKE - University of Texas students can get ready to pay more for tuition next year and the year after. The UT System Board of Regents approved a tuition hike last week – tuition will go up 2-point-6 percent. At UT Austin that will mean an increase next year of just under 290-dollars. When asked about the increase, different students had different reactions.
“Like, it’s kind of just keeping up with the economy and a bit of inflation rate, so I’d say it’s pretty okay right now," explained UT college student Michael Evangeslita.explained Safron Caplan also a UT student said “If there’s anything that’s going to make our mental health worse right now, it’s hiking the tuition. UT is one of the richest public schools in the country. Like it just doesn’t make any sense.”
University of Texas officials gave several reasons
for the increase including inflation and reduced financial support from the state. However data compiled by Bloomberg News last December found UT's endowment grew to 31-billion dollars -- making it second only to Harvard University among higher education institutions in the United States. Two institutions in Tyler, Texas will be affected- the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and The University of Texas at Tyler.
