Shreveport Catholic Diocese Gets New Bishop

SHREVEPORT DIOCESE GETS NEW BISHOP -   The Catholic Diocese of Shreveport announced yesterday that it has a new bishop as Pope Francis at the Vatican in Rome has appointed the Reverend Monsignor Francis Malone as Bishop-elect of Shreveport.  According to a press release:  Monsignor Malone is a priest of the Diocese of Little Rock and currently serves as Chancellor for Ecclesial Affairs and Pastor of Christ the King Church in Little Rock.     The Diocese of Shreveport has been without a bishop for 14 months after its last bishop Michael Duca was appointed to the Diocese of Baton Rouge in August 2018.

During a press conference yesterday—Bishop-elect Malone  explained on thing he’ll do for the Diocese will be  to  encourage  more  people  to consider  church vocations.

"It's also being courageous in fostering vocations," Malone explained. "And not being afraid to identify young men and women that you and your faith life's say ' that person could very well be a priest or that person could lead a consecrated life in our church."

Bishop-elect Malone will be officially consecrated on January 28th -- The Diocese of Shreveport, Louisiana  has a total population of more than 800,000, of which 5%- about 41,000  are Catholic.
