LONGVIEW, TX - The Historic Longview Farmer’s Market has reopened after summer heat and dry weather forced it to close for several weeks. Vendors have returned with fresh produce, baked goods and more. Ellen Gordon with Preservation Longview, which founded the market in 2011.
“On Sept. 8, we reopened. We took a little break in the heat of August when there was no produce being grown locally", explained Gordon." But we are open again because we do have local produce once again, in addition to a lot of vendors. We encourage people to come out on Saturday mornings between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m.,” she said.
Among the new vendors this year is Czech Please, which bakes genuine kolaches. Sandy Ferrell of nearby Gladewater is the owner and chef:

“Czech, Please is East Texas’ premier Czech bakery. Anybody who has been through West is familiar with real kolaches"Ferrell said." I wanted to bring that experience to East Texas. The farmer’s market has become really a great venue to get my name out and ro let people know I exist. And, really, if you have kolaches, people will come.
Lowell Tanksley with Tanksley Farms in Hainesville, outside Mineola, has been a part of the History Longview Farmer’s Market since the beginning. While the dry weather slowed his crops for a short while, he’s back with a wide selection of produce:

Tanksley said“I bring a variety of vegetables. I grow tomatoes, five varietes of tomatoes, three or four varieties of squash, potatoes, eggplant, five or six varieties of peppers, different things so people can have a good variety to choose from."
The market is open from 7”30 to 11:30 a.m. every Saturday until just before Thanksgiving. It’s located at the corner of Cotton and High streets in downtown Longview. http://historiclongviewfarmersmarket.com/
