TEXAS POPULATION GROWTH-   It probably comes as no surprise that the Texas population is booming, there’s been several news articles recently touting the rapid growth as more corporations are eyeing the Lone Star State as locations for expansion.  and  new population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau confirm this growth.  In fact… Between July 2016 and July 2017, six of the ten largest-population gaining counties  in the Nation-- were in Texas.  They include Bexar, Collin, Dallas, and Harris counties.  Where are all of these people coming from  Texas state demographer Lloyd Potter told the Texas Standard  it’s a combination  of  domestic  and international  migration.  “So when you look at the suburban ring counties, almost all of their migration growth is from domestic migration. When you look at the urban core counties, Dallas, Houston, also Austin, and San Antonio, and to a lesser extent Tarrant, we see a tremendous a tremendous amount of international migration that’s causing growth.”

Areas around Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin grew between 2016 and 2017.   Additionally, the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan area had the largest population increase of any metro area in the country, adding 146-thousand new residents. But other parts of Texas actually shrunk in population. Potter explains “We had about a 100 counties that lost population, so there are people moving from other parts of the state to these more urbanized and suburban areas and they’re doing that largely due to economic opportunity.”   As more large companies look to relocate in the Lone Star State…there will even be more people moving to there…in fact Dallas-Ft. Worth and Austin, Texas have made the top 20 cities to be considered for Amazon’s 2nd  Headquarters  and  if chosen,  that  could  result  in  a  spike in migration.
