Guns Found At 3 Texas High Schools — Authorities say three Texas high school students face charges after bringing guns to campus a day after a deadly mass shooting at a school in Florida. The arrests Thursday happened at separate schools in suburban Dallas. Police didn't immediately release information on why the students brought firearms to class. Flower Mound police said in a statement that a 16-year-old faced felony charges for bringing a small-caliber handgun to school. According to a report by CBS 11 News – The school did not go into “lock-down", something that concerned Terri White a parent of a frightened student who attends Marcus High School: " There were children exiting the schools without calling their parents because they knew, all the kids knew. The teachers didn't know,. My child went into class and told the teacher 'I'm leaving' and the teacher said 'are you sick?' , she said 'No, there's a kid with a gun here at school'. The teacher didn't know. No lock-down, that's the policy." Police say the lockdown wasn’t called for as the suspect was immediately taken into custody without incident.
Police said the gun wasn't loaded but that ammunition was found. Students told reporters that they knew the suspect had a gun and told a security officer on campus. Across town… another unloaded gun was found in the backpack of a 19-year-old student in Garland, Texas. The third arrest was in Plano, where police spokesman told The Dallas Morning News that a tip had been called in about a student bringing a gun to school. NW LA. So we take the safety of our students very seriously. Matter of fact, safety is number one importance with the Bossier Parish School System than anything else.” Bossier Parish Schools has 35 School Resource Officers. Caddo Schools has an officer at every High School, Middle School and Alternative School Campus and at half of the Elementary Schools.
