HIGHER EDUCATION PRIORITIES - Earlier this week, Louisiana State University in Shreveport celebrated its 50th Anniversary…an official birthday ceremony took place on the University Mall…there were several special guests and dignitaries on hand. LSU System President, Dr. F. King Alexander came up from Baton Rouge to participate. Dr. Alexander told Red River Radio that state funding for higher education institutions like LSUS should be a strong priority for the state. "It's about time we really start prioritizing the next generation of talented students," explained Alexander," And instead of throwing them under the bus each and every year; this past year was the best year we ever had thanks to the governor and legislative leaders. We want them to continue to do what they've done this past year but also supporting these talented young people." Alexander was referring to recent legislative actions that spared higher education from budget cuts as had been experienced in past years. When asked what people could do to support higher education, Dr. Alexander suggested "I would hold your legislators accountable. Everyone of them says they want to support the next generation, they want to support higher education, they want to support our universities. I'd hold them accountable to their votes. It's when they vote, that's when it matters."
