LSUS TURNS 50 - The campus mall at LSUS was the scene for celebration as a large crowd of students, faculty, and guests were on hand for official 50th birthday ceremonies. There were tethered balloon rides, food and a birthday cake as well as a Marilyn Monroe-esque singing version of Happy Birthday. In 1967, LSUS had an enrollment of 807 students and was a two-year institution. Fast-forward to 2017 and LSUS has a student body of more than 5,000 and has awarded more than 20,000 degrees since it opened.

Chancellor Larry Clark welcomed everyone and serving as Master of Ceremonies for the day, introduced local dignitaries, guests and students during the short but informative opening ceremony. The event was capped with a ribbon cutting, officially opening a gallery in the University Center which houses a recently opened "time capsule" that displays various items saved from LSUS's earlier period. The 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION will continue throughout the year with special events.. To keep updated, go to the website: www.lsus.edu/lsus-50th-anniversary-site
