TRACKING STORMS IN TEXAS -As rain continues from Tropical Storm Harvey for much of Louisiana and Texas, city and state officials are keeping a close watch on areas prone to flooding.
Assistant City Manager and Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Floyd says the city has everything in place to respond if need be. "We're monitoring everything, we're prepared for whatever may come, we're prepared for the worst but hope for the best. We just, you know, we're waiting and watching."Even as Harvey has brought devastation to some parts of the region — with flooding being the chief concern — Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator Jason Arnold says Lufkin has fared well so far."We're not having any indication that there's going to be an issue with flooding. And that's with the anywhere from four to seven, eight, ten inches of rain we're still going to get this week. So, no, we don't anticipate any problem as it is right now." Arnold says he's aware of other towns like Lufkin sending assistance to Houston and other affected areas, and it's something the city has considered. But at the moment: "There's not much that we can do just because of logistics. The problem right now is those cities, and towns, communities who need help, we can't get to."Once some of the flooding between Lufkin and Houston drains, Arnold says, the city may send help.
