MODIFIED MOSQUITOES - KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Dr. Matthew Woolard with the department of Microbiology and Immunology / LSU Health Sciences Center - Shreveport will be the keynote speaker at an event focusing on bio-engineered mosquitoes as a means of fighting the spread of disease such as malaraia, Zika, West Nile Virus and more. GENETIC ENGINEERING - Scientists are now able to modify DNA in mosquitoes with a "suicide gene" to control their population and fight disease.
