Bossier City Police Department receives tactical robot donation

The foundation for fast-food chain Firehouse Subs is presenting a new piece of robotic equipment Thursday to the Bossier City Police Department.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation says it’s donating a tactical police robot that can be used in dangerous searches in hostile environments. In tactical situations, this will allow officers to be at a safe distance while operating the robot.

According to a news release, this foundation has donated more than $18 million since 2005 to purchase life-saving equipment for public safety organizations and provide educational opportunities to first-responders. Louisiana has received $168,000 of support. The Bossier City Police Department's new tactical robot is worth $26,000.

The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. at the Firehouse Subs Restaurant in Bossier City, 3011 Airline Dr.
