State fiscal strategy meeting to be held in Natchitoches

Northwestern State University will hold a fiscal strategy meeting Tuesday to explore a proposal on how to fix Louisiana’s budget woes.

According to an NSU news release, the meeting intends to present the detailed analysis proposed by the Washington, D.C.-based Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan research think tank. It recently published a 103-page report on how to restructure Louisiana’s tax system. Louisiana faces a $1.6 billion budget shortfall.

The fiscal strategy briefing will feature Jim Richardson, an LSU economist and member of the state’s Revenue Estimating Conference. He’ll be joined by Rep. Julie Stokes of District 79, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

NSU is sponsoring the meeting with the Committee of 100, an economic development policy group in Louisiana.

It will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 in NSU’s Sylvan Friedman Student Union Ballroom, 185 Sam Sibley Dr.

Seating is limited and reservations are recommended. The Committee of 100 is accepting RSVPs at C100@C100la.org
