Five students from LSU Shreveport attended the New Hampshire Primary Student Convention last week in Manchester.
Student Government Association President Dennis Henderson of Shreveport says they came with carefully crafted questions in case they were called on in the town hall meetings.
About 1,200 student delegates gathered from around the country, representing high schools and colleges. Henderson found Carly Fiorina’s demeanor in the face of heated questions made the greatest impression on him.
“It was just the reaction she took. She bowed her head before she said anything. She thought about it for a second and didn’t want to speak rashly. She would come back and give a very straight answer that was clear and to the point,” Henderson said, a secondary education major.
In all, 48 delegates came from Louisiana colleges and universities, including several students from LSU Alexandria and Louisiana Tech University. Henderson says he appreciated seeing the leading presidential candidates in an unfiltered light.
“To actually see the candidates face-to-face, and not have that media breakdown, because I always feel like the media give me only what they want to give me at that moment. Instead, this was a raw interaction between us and the candidates,” Henderson said.
The LSUS Foundation covered all the expenses for the five students to attend the three-day convention.
