Historic tree replanted to welcome SAU's 12th president

SAU news website.

Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia is preparing to install a new president on Wednesday, July 1.

The Lone Pine Tree, an iconic tree that stood on SAU’s campus for almost 50 years, was downed in a storm in 1956. That tree will be replanted in a ceremony to welcome the twelfth president of SAU, Trey Berry.

Berry is being promoted from his post as SAU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. He has taught history at SAU, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and Ouachita Baptist University. Wednesday will mark Berry’s first day in office as SAU’s president.

The public ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on the east lawn of Overstreet Hall. Parking for the event will be available at the east lawn parking lot across from the Greek Theatre.
