Louisiana Public Square: Title IX in Louisiana

Airs Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 6 p.m. Louisiana colleges and universities have come under fire for their recent handling of Title IX investigations. No school is under more scrutiny than Louisiana State University after an independent investigation by Husch Blackwell revealed a culture that covered up sexual assaults and harassment, rather than sanction them. LSU Shreveport is in a Title IX scandal of its own after the chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center was accused of sexual discrimination and harassment by multiple female employees.   (more)

These recent reports depict a broken Title IX system in Louisiana that is without enough staff and resources for victims. LSU plans to invest $1 million into its Title IX staff, and schools like University of Louisiana are developing policies to ensure staff can be fired for cause if they fail to comply with Title IX reporting requirements. Even so, is it too little, too late? Are our young people safe at Louisiana colleges? And is the culture of “protecting the brand at all costs” a bigger problem in Louisiana schools than in other states? Louisiana Public Square explores these issues and more on “Title IX in Louisiana” Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 6 p.m. on Red River Radio.
