Louisiana Public Square: "The Value of Teachers"

Airs Sunday, February 3, 2018, at 6 p.m. Louisiana public school teachers may see a salary increase on the horizon. Governor John Bel Edwards says his top priority for the 2019 legislative session is funding a teacher pay raise. Educators in the South earn an average of $50,955 annually, In Louisiana, the average is $49,745.
Complicating the Governor’s promise is the failure of top legislators to approve the Revenue Estimating Conference’s forecast. So, how will a salary increase be funded? Should the raise be across-the-board or should districts have the flexibility in how it's used? Should support staff be included in the mix?
Louisiana Public Square looks for answers to these questions and more on “The Value of Teachers.”
