Glimmerglass Festival: Bernstein's Candide

Airs Saturday, November 21, at 12 noon. This week from the Glimmerglass Opera, Leonard Bernstein's beloved opera Candide will be performed. Funny, fast-moving and philosophical, Bernstein's take on Voltaire's satirical novella includes such classic tunes as "The Best of All Possible Worlds" and "Glitter and Be Gay." This production stars Andrew Stenson in the title role with Matthew Scollin in the roles of Martin and James, Kathryn Lewek as Cunegonde, Marietta Simpson as The Old Lady, Cynthia Cook in the roles of Baroness and Vanderdendur, Christian Bowers as Maximilian, David Garrison as Pangloss and Voltaire, Kristen Choi as Paquette, Andrew Maughan as Cacambo, Brad Raymond as the Governor, Marco Cammarota as the Baron, and our inquisitors are Brad Raymond as the Grand Inquisitor with Brian Vu and Anthony Schneider as his fellow inquisitors. Francesca Zambello directs with Joseph Colaneri leading the Glimmerglass Festival Orchestra.
