Pittsburg, Texas, announces business plan competition to spur growth

City of Pittsburg, Texas

Pittsburg, Texas is launching its first startup business competition that will reward a small business for opening up inside its city limits.

The Pittsburg Innovative Entrepreneur competition will award $20,000 to the winning business plan to be used on startup expenses, along with other perks. Pittsburg’s economic development director Jenny Rowan said she wants to generate buzz and grassroots support for economic development.

“We want to make it more exciting and not as scary,” Rowan said. “If someone says, Oh, I’ll apply to the economic development corporation, it’s not as fun and exciting as, we want to make your dreams come true. We want to help you open up your business. Which, that’s what we already have and want to do that. It’s just marketing that a little bit differently.”

The city is accepting business plans now for the Pittsburg Innovative Entrepreneur competition. The application deadline is Feb. 23.
