LA SEN. CASSIDY ON ABORTION CASE – Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy has weighed in on the recent court case on the so-called Abortion Pill Ban. Earlier this month a lower court judge in Texas completely blocked the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the drug Mifepriston saying it was unlawful. While appearing on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday, Cassidy was asked if the court’s ruling could upend the Federal agency’s authority.

“Totally alarmist, it’s totally alarmist,” Cassidy said. “And by the way when did the FDA go above the law? It can ignore the Administrative Procedure Act which every other agency has to follow theoretically, but they don’t have to? So I think that’s alarmist and I also think that the FDA should not be above the law.”

Cassidy was referring to the Administrative Procedures Act that governs the process by which federal agencies develop and issue regulations. The Supreme Court on Friday temporarily blocked the Texas federal judge's decision, allowing time for them to consider the case. In the meantime, people can still obtain mifepristone. And despite the GOP’s apparent efforts to create a nationwide abortion ban, Cassidy maintains that the Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling returned decisions on abortion laws back to the states.
