Cyber Attack Forces Louisiana DMV Offline

LOUISIANA CYBER ATTACK-   If you’re trying to get a driver’s license in Louisiana today,   you’ll be disappointed to learn that all offices of the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles are closed due to a cyber-attack that state officials reported had occurred this past Monday.

The attempted ransomware attack caused the shutdown of state servers Monday, upending online services and email across state agencies. Most operations are back up and running, but the cyberattack caused larger problems at the Office of Motor Vehicles.

At his first post-election press conference at the Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge – Governor John Bel Edwards specifically addressed the cyber-attack and what has been done so far.

unsuccessful," Edwards explained. "We did not lose any data and we did not pay any ransom."

The state’s Office of Technology Services immediate initiated security measures when the cyber attack occurred, shutting down many state agenicie’s e-mail, websites, and other online applications.  Louisiana's technology services office continues its work to restore OMV network and online services,  Governor Edwards said the State Department of Motor Vehicles offices should resume normal operations on Monday.
