La BALLOT ISSUES:  , Election day is next week.  In Louisiana there are six constitutional amendments on the ballot,  Over the next few days,  Red River Radio News will be focusing on these amendments.  Jeffrey Sadow is Associate Professor of Political Science at LSU in Shreveport.  He explains what amendment 1 entails.

LA CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 1 - Felons and public office.  Restricting convicted felons from holding office until a five year period until after sentence and/or parole has been served.  Current rules allow convicted felons to seek or hold public office as soon as their sentence is completed.

LA CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 2 - Unanimous Jury Required For Felony Cases I passed would make Louisiana the 49th  state  to  abolish  split-jury verdicts.   Under current rules, those accused of most serious felonies  can be  convicted  if  10  of  12 jurors vote that way.   Some Louisiana prosecutors aren’t in favor of Amendment 2, saying it’s hard enough to get convictions.
