A 103-year-old church in Kilgore will be recognized by the Texas Historical commission with its latest marker.
Hickory Grove Baptist Church was built in 1912.
According to the Longview News-Journal, a church member submitted the application. The Texas Historical Commission website says that a building has to meet certain age, significance, and architectural requirements to obtain a marker. This one is noted for its age.
The century-old, auditorium-style church is now used for exercise and youth programs. It’s located across the street from a new worship center that was built in the 1990s.
The marker at Hickory Grove Baptist Church will be unveiled during a ceremony on July 19 at 2:30 p.m.
